Go to that area and the price of real estate is way higher than what I'd pay. It's nothing new. If you want, go to San Jose, CA and a house like that will be over $2M. All I got to do is move 20 miles east and my house would be $1M. Reason why I don't live in Central NJ.

This hits on something I have wondered for a while now. Why isn't he driving one of these things daily? At least _one_ of the E machines at this point should be running well enough to be able to be licensed as a kit car for highway use.

Elio Motors has a Manufacturers Plate (I've seen it in person). So they are good anywhere in the US. Only thing you need is is proof of insurance. I know Elio has that. So, there's no reason why Paul would not be driving that all around the Phoenix area. Even at that, Elio Motors has a dealers license in Louisiana and this they can get Dealer Tags also. If Elio just had a car repair service, they can get a Repair Towing tag also. The one place I get state inspections at has one of those plates and the owner uses that as his daily driver. He doesn't even need an inspection (same for a Manufacturers Plate). Even the Porsche training center by my house has lots of Manufacturer Plates on new Porsches too.

Plus being in the Phoenix area, Manufacturer Plates are common due to the number of test facilities they have in the area. So Elio has lots of plates to choose from. I'd think Paul would want to personally do some real world testing because he is the CEO and has all of that experience in cars. Then he can tell his engineering staff what to do for the improvements.

The blog is to let you know they are still in operation. Plus you can keep checking it because that's where the breaking news will come from (not really because the last breaking news was announced via PR Newswire before it made it on the blog). So maybe I need to change what i said. Check PR Newswire first, then the blog a day later.

Actually not. They just send stuff out. If you really want to see the oddball stuff manufacturers send out, go to the Nurburgring in Germany. Every manufacturer seems to send everything out on that track. There's even footage of GM Enginers wrecking a pre production Camaro at that place.

Come to think about it, maybe that's where Paul is. Nurburgring and running laps there. We need to look up the various sites that have people set up there recording everything that goes around that place. The closest to an Elio I can find is this:

I dunno, they hustled them around Nurburgring pretty good. In all the "spy" footage I have seen of them they appear to just be tooling around pretty much on their own.

All of the prototypes were really just show cars. Elio never had an in-house mechanic or machinist, and there is no indication that Paul has been tinkering away in his garage since the funding went dark. None of the prototypes was built to production spec, nor to production quality. It just wouldn't make any sense to try to use any of them as a daily driver, especially in the Phoenix summer heat.

Just for the record, and hopefully someone knows more detail, but I think there were a total of 5 prototypes. I believe only one had an engine and drivetrain that was capable of maybe 25 to 30 mph. There might have been another that ‘moved.’ It was rumored that maybe one engine was moved around. Three never were more than static displays and their designs were quickly obsoleted. I do not think Paul and Hari were ever forthcoming on just what engine was in the mobile one.

I’m sure someone else knows more detail, if they are still alive and following this.
