Well, This morning I see GM has been subsidized by the federal government. They were bailed out a few years ago with our tax dollars. The people working at that plant are among the best paid workers in this valley. They have the best retirement plan, holiday schedules and extra pay. They pay a portion of their pay to a union but still live in the best neighborhoods & in the finest homes. Their kids & grandkids are either on drugs or going to college. Many both. Those unions support (removed) candidates who turn around and make sweet deals concerning the GM workers but make the politicians & the union bosses very rich. They made a crappy car, made crappy decisions and Susan got caught in the broom closet with her married supervisor. (true story and they both still have their jobs). WTF? WHY am I am paying for this ???? But yet the DoE is Dragging their feet on the ATVM loan for elio. I'm pissed. (I posted this early this morning on my page. I can't see elio being made here in OHIO. These spoiled people at this plant make over $30.00 an hour. There, I said it.)

Wouldn't that get the attention of every litigator in Louisiana? Elio would be spending all their time in court.
For what? EM does not, nor have they EVER, had a legal agreement with Caddo Parish. Mere spoken promises are irrelevant.
EM bought the equipment that they sold off in a completely separate deal with RACER Trust. It didn't have anything to do with the Parish.

The potential fines (deadline was extended) for failng to bring jobs to the plant are part of the equipment agreement with RACER.
If EM were to revitalize another plant overseen by RACER, would the Trust be willing to change or cancel that agreement?

Sounds to me like this is going to present a great opportunity to get some lavish homes for pennies on the dollar.
Did I tell you all that I bought my really nice current residence for $7100 cash which included all inspections, taxes and closing costs?
Yep. No typo. Right place at exactly the right time. The hoot is that I'll have paid far more for my Elio than for my home if the Elio is ever produced.

You stated the problem and stated the reason for the problem in the same post. Why can't Elio get the ATVM loan? Because they didn't "make the politicians & the union bosses very rich."

By any chance does your current residence have wheels?

Nope. It was a foreclosure. I happened to be looking online when they listed it. I was the first to call and the first to see it. Two bedroom two story with basement. Vinyl siding. New porches. Corner lot. Modern double pane vinyl windows. A cyclone fence around three sides of the property and a wooden fence on the neighbor's side. The cyclone fence has two man gates and has a double gate for vehicles in the back. There's parking outside the fence for two vehicles in front and six vehicles in back. There's a babbling brook that runs along the road on one side the house. The state stocks it with trout in the spring. There's nothing but a wooded hill behind it. I can hear the stream from inside the house when everything's quiet. All I had to do was put in an electric water heater, bathroom floor, some CPVC and a gas pipe from the meter to the high efficiency furnace. The state pays 3/4 of the real estate taxes in our township, so I only pay about $300 a year for all my non-income taxes. I couldn't have done better if I'd have planned it all myself. It was one of those 'too good to be true' scenarios but without the catch.

It's only going to get worse. Now you'll have a bunch of people unemployed who are receiving great benefits. That means they are sitting around and not doing much. So you know what they say about idle hands.

Since Stu is one of the largest industrial property owners in Ohio, he might end up with the plant. What Elio could do is just propose moving to Ohio but only pay $15-20/hr with basic benefits and no UAW. If the state is really looking to keep most of those jobs, they would be more than happy to get them there. If not, Elio can just stay in Shreveport. This is a good opportunity for Elio to use it's power of a job creator and get the best deal. If not Ohio, then Michigan. Why not have all of the areas fight over these 1500+ jobs? Elio is in the position of power right now and using it would be beneficial. If not, then they stay in an area that is doing the company no favors at all.

In the interest of "truthiness" - the GM bailout agreement was December 19, 2008. Yes, it was our tax dollars. a bailout plan and gave General Motors and Chrysler $13.4 billion in financing from TARP (Troubled Assets Relief Program) funds, as well as $4 billion to be "withdrawn later".

This really shouldn't be a partisan issue. The bailout plan was supported by both sides of the aisle.

They were bailed out but repaid ALL of that money. I get that it was a decent bet for the government to step in and try to help save those jobs and in the end, it paid off for the government. I mean, they got their initial investment back directly and got the taxes paid by those jobs they saved for several years. So, that was a win... of a sort.
