Good post Ty, however there is one small thing I would like to point out. The AMT will not have a "park" position. It will be necessary to leave the transmission in low or reverse and set the hand brake to secure the vehicle. This has been a concern of mine since the hand brake on disk brake cars just barely holds a car in place on even a slight grade with brakes on 2 rear wheels let alone the Elios single rear wheel. Don't know how they're going to address this issue for the folks who want remote starting.
Most of my handbrakes only work on one wheel.

Frim --- I don't think there any vehicles in the US that utilize this particular Aisin AMT. It's fairly common in Europe and Asia in the Toyota Yaris and Corolla. Probably the nearest comparable car would be a Smart 4two a couple of years old. I think the Smart uses a Getrag transmission rather than Aisin but the operation and characteristics are very similar.

Outsydthebox --- Other than carrying a pair of chocks around with you, Having the parking brake on the front wheels is the only fix I can think of to allow parking with the transmission in neutral. However that could make any attempted bootlegger turns a real hoot.

The SMART or the Toyota Yaris, I believe. I'm looking into it now. I know someone on here knew which ones they were though.
Someone from this forum went on that search. They reported that the Yaris sold in the USA does NOT have the AMT transmission.

Skychief....the short answer is YES !
My guess it will be the familiar PRND for the auto :D
Of course, I'll be using the paddle shifters :p
Nope, no more PRNDL, it will now be like the picture:
maxresdefault[1].jpg

RNE- -M+
R=Reverse
N=Neutral
E=EVERY GEAR (same as D) {Some car companies call it Economy Mode)
-M+=Manual shift mode (you would put it in M to use the paddle shifters)

Some others do it opposite side

I like the "Rally" cars "Slap" shifters better.

I've heard a number of people speculating about paddle / slap shifters, but other than idle speculation from forum members, never heard Elio mention them. Considering the linkage involved my guess is you will need to add at least $800 to $1000 to get the paddle shifter on the steering wheel.
