The interesting thing to me about all the negative folks is that we will never hear from them once Eilo's are being produced. The negative FB complaint page will probably disappear. There is no way for them to save face and come back and say "I am sorry, I was wrong and you all were right". They might think it and maybe if they have a conscience feel bad for what they said and for what they posted but we will never hear from them again. And I guess that's OK. They are the ones that have to live with themselves.
I respectfully disagree with your projection TC.
I think the Negatives will be dig in deeper, rationalize harder, and desperately scream on even louder once production starts.
The only difference is that the entire world will easily see them for who they really are at that point.

over time we have experienced several new members, joining at roughly the same time, who come in lobbing bombs .... we later learned that they are members of some anti Elio forums and decided to join here so as to stir things up .... I cannot say that is the case this time .... the bottom line is they usually fail in sewing controversy and frankly aren't members for very long .... as a reminder, any member who sees a post that they feel isn't in keeping forum standards has the option of reporting it .... reported post will be reviewed and handled accordingly .... as moderators, we do appreciate the support we receive
I actually like a breath of bad air once in a while.
Stirs things up and cleans the dust out.

I thought it was HILARIOUS when Tesla announced the Model 3. More affordable to everyone??? starting at only $35,000! :eek::confused: Just who is this everyone that they are considering?
The median income in my (highly depressed welfare area) has been reported to be $59,000 per household per year.
Obviously the people that released that figure don't live anywhere near here.

In the EV world, "long range" is basically shorthand for "200+ miles". And any Tesla can do 800-1000 miles in a day as long as you are following a route which has DC fast charging stations along the way.
But that's like saying "Any Ford can do 800-1000 miles as long as you have gas stations along the way", which is to say that it is an infrastructure issue, not an EV issue. And there IS a rapidly growing network of fast-charging stations.

The exciting thing about new 200-mile range cars coming on the market, is that Teslas will no longer be the ONLY car that can do cross-country trips. That said, Tesla still has the best "cross country" distribution of charging stations. The other two types of DC fast charging are mostly centered around major population zones, while Tesla has gone out of their way to create a nationwide Interstate network.

The following is only representative of density--not actual numbers. For instance, the chart shows nothing in southern California for Tesla stations, when that is blatantly untrue when you zoom in (these are screen-caps from Plugshare, a handy EV charging station location website/app).

Again, for now, if you are somebody who commutes 1000-miles in a single day, on a weekly basis, then an EV is not for you. (A better investment would be your own airplane! Or an Elio :D). But if you travel that sort of distance less than once a month, then the savings you see in daily driving in an EV would more than pay for a rental car or U-Haul for those long-distance trips.

On a side note, Kia has promised to develop a 350 mile range EV by 2020 (or was it 2025? I can't find my source right now.) So right around the time Chevy Bolts will be coming off their leases. The rich folk can upgrade to a longer range Kia, and I can pick up a Bolt on the cheap :D

Model 3 Tesla owners will have to pay for use of charging stations...

I think anybody who buys a "new" car is a fool, regardless of the sticker price.

Okay, maybe that is a bit harsh. But certainly the people who buy new cars either can't do math, or have enough money not to worry about the math. I think the Elio is probably the one exception to that rule; not because it is cheap, but because I believe they will not depreciate as dramatically as other new cars. Even the truely affordable Nissan Versa (base model) at just over $12,000, is much more affordable if you get one just a few years old (around $7-8000 for a 2013 model with over 35k miles, or about the price of a new Elio).

I am with you on buying slightly used. We are in the situation where buying new is not a problem for us financially and I still tend to look for models a couple years old. Not only to avoid depreciation but also to get major bugs and recalls worked out. An exception would be a new model that makes my palms sweat and heart pound, you know, the Elio turbo :)

My wife tends to only keep cars 4 years at a time and only puts around 6-8,000 miles per year on them, her trade-ins are the perfect ones to pick up used :) She buys new because she wants the peace of mind of being covered by the full bumper-to-bumper warranty and knowing that no one else has done weird, unspeakable things in it. Her emotional connection to her vehicles is a different connection than mine.

My Elio Sport Model Electric will beat your Elio Sport Model Turbo in an off the line 0-60 mph and the quarter mile. You may win the cross country race.

It really depends on the setup. 0-30 MPH, the EV will likely be quicker. Unless Elio goes with an intentionally fast EV setup or weak turbo, 30-60 where the turbo has spooled up and 1/4 mile would likely be quicker with the turbo ICE. But the EV will probably feel quicker day-to-day.

For example, the Leaf looks like it does 0-30 in 3.0s and 0-60 in 9.4s. Not a speedy sprint to 60, but drivers say it feels fast due to the 0-30 low speed torque. And a 1/4 mile in 17.2s, average performance for an economy car.
