Thought this would be a good place to put this. With all the talk of EVs in this forum the discussion has been spread thin. I have proclaimed my enthusiasm for EVs and believe others have similar feelings (Rickb?). I would like this to be a collection of articles, discussions, and ideas to present solutions to the apparent problems with EV. to get us started I found this interesting article that shows promise for the long charge times, and in turn range of the future of transportation.

(My opinions are my own and are not to be considered fact)

There is an EV in my future, just waiting for the right Concept to hit the market. Range is not so much an issue because I plan to use it as a City Car for daily errands........an 'and' vehicle. FUN, style, and performance is far more critical than range. Frankly, the Toyota i-Road (low performance) would work perfectly for my application The fun is in the drive...........the tilt and maneuverability. Now, if they could only get the top speed up to 50 mph in a production model...........I'll buy one in a heartbeat for local use. I class the i-Road as an autoscooter.

Karnaj, you should check out the http://electricvehicles.club/community/ since you have serious interest in EVs. Lots of good information.

Interesting quick charge article. That technology, when it finally gets into the manufacturing chain, will help to make EVs the future in transportation.

That would address the charging time fer sure. Does it do anything to the output time?
If I remember correctly in the article it stated it had no ill effects to either capacity or output, just charge time. Sounds promising, then again a lot of "prototype tech" have seemed promising and not panned out....yet.

Been a member of diyelectriccar.com for a while. Gave up on finding an electric production car with style. Decided build my own. That's what brought me to the Elio. I need to get an inexpensive reliable car to save the money I will need for my build. The Elio IS that car. Once it is purchased I plan on buying a 33 or 34 Ford Tudor and converting it to EV. Classic style and the power plant of the future. Best of both worlds :D:cool: Of course I will look into that site also. Appreciate the resource.

I have had email chat with a company that retrofits Classic E-VW Bugs.......sweet but expensive. If you have the required knowledge and mechanical skills and only have to buy component parts the first EVElio (although no Ford Tudor) might be affordable. I was hoping EM might offer an optional Elio with no drive train for EV conversions.

I think you misunderstand, the Elio is a tool for me to use to get too the classic Ford conversion. I need something to drive while spending all cash on my conversion. ;)

Nope, I understood your plan............My plan would be to possibly retrofit the Elio, but realize that it's no WOW factor Classic Ford Tudor conversion. I prefer the idea of your future EVTudor.

Frankly, retrofitting an 84 mpg Elio to an EVElio isn't financially practical, but somebody is going to do it soon after production as a high performance vehicle or just because they can.

There was an article that popped up on my Google Now this morning about how those quick charges really do damage your battery, no matter what the manufacturer claims. I don't know anything about them, myself.

Although nothing much is known about EV startup Faraday Motors, one of the rumors is that they'll be making retrofit kits so people can convert their own EVs. A mass-produced EV kit maker might be the cheapest solution. If I had my druthers, I'd go for a 50's Studebaker coupe EV :)
