With the obvious financial impact this will have on Takata I can only hope it doesn't result in a huge increase in price. Since EM is already scrounging for nickles a significant increase in air bag cost would likely need to be passed on.

No air bags have been manufactured for the ELIO yet, nor are they likely to any time soon. Air bags are not an issue for ELIO.

The replacements will be phased in over some years. Older vehicles in the southeastern states will be repaired first. I am still waiting on my fix (chrysler P51 recall), for over a year. Chrysler keeps sending me notices but the dealers keep telling me they dont have the equipment or repair instructions from chrysler, so I keep waiting. This is not the Takata issue, this is a miswired air bag system that blows the wrong side in an accident. supposedly is just takes some reprogramming of the ECM, but I guess the dealers didnt get that note.

Some time back, I started a thread on Takata and Elio. I was hoping Elio would drop them in favor of another supplier. So many on here felt I was out of line to question Elio Motors on their choice of suppliers (regardless of current events surrounding Takata) that I decided to let it drop - as the fanboys were falling over themselves to chastise me for not falling 100% in-line with Elio's vision.

Yesterday at our Ohio Elio Owners get together the Takata airbag recall issue came up. With the major player in airbags having to recall millions of airbags in the market will they be able to supply Elio with the needed components when production begins? This major airbag recall may take years to resolve. Will Elio's needs take a back seat to the major players in the industry?

I got on the website today looking for talk about Takata airbag issue. It does not convey a lot of confidence knowing this is the supplier of choice by Elio and their expert board of directors. I would think there is a scramble to find another supplier soon....after all "Elio's Motors" have often bragged about a high percentage being made in AMERICA !....with Takata gone...time an American company to fill that order....I'm just sayin'

I suspect that right now Takata is probably putting out some of the best bags ever made .... they are under a huge international microscope and to do anything less would put them out of business
