Oddly enough my experience has been quite different. I have brought the Elio into conversation with a number of friends and colleagues and many have not only heard of it, but are intrigued by the concept.
That has been my experience also. I have some business card size promotional material provided by EM that I hand out if someone is interested. :-) Z

This has been my experience also. Many are anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Elio. Two have made deposits of $500 and with the announcement yesterday of the 50% I'm sure will kick in another $500.

I printed out a couple of the Elio PDF "sell" cut sheets, which has all the pertinent information listed on it, and left them laying out in plain sight in my office at work... http://www.eliomotors.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Elio_3399_One_Page_Sell_Sheet_HR_v5_NOCROP.pdf People notice them and ask about the Elio and I give 'em the "pitch" stressing the two main points that most impressed me when I first looked at it... (besides the general mechanical coolness :D) 90% North American content, and putting 1500 Americans back to work actually manufacturing a product. I know I know, you're probably saying, but what about the 84 mpg, and the other cool features not to mention the price for all of this... Well, I work in engineering for one of the largest chemical companies in the world... Heck, a lot of the folks I work with are driving some very expensive large vehicles... F-250 or 350 "dually" pickups for instance... They can appreciate the economics of the Elio as an "And" vehicle like Paul says, and most of them like the engineering, but everyone agrees without exception the worth of bringing American manufacturing jobs into being... Anyway, some of the folks ask for copies of the cut sheet and I point them to the web site... Dunno if anyone has jumped on board yet and reserved one, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did... Jus doin' my part to spread the word... Couldn't hurt! ;)

My family all think I'm crazy anyway, but believe me the feeling goes both ways. If it don't have at least 6 cylinders and 4X4 it's not road worthy for this crowd. Perpetual 5 years of payments is the only way to go. I just shake my head and accept I have a wealth of knuckle draggers in my tree.

I can relate, my brother has never driven to work in a vehicle that was paid for. Every time one got close, it was time to trade it in. He bought a new Dodge Ram pickup when they first came out, got the automatic tranny so his wife could drive it, after some time he realized his wife wasn't going to be driving it, so he tried to trade it in for one with a five speed but found out he was 'upside down' so had to wait and make payments for a couple more years to trade it in on another brand new one and start making payments all over again. The last car I financed was in 1974 (two years out of high school). I don't borrow money on a depreceating asset and I will be paying cash for my Elio.
