Just got an email from EM describing the savings driving the Elio 549mile round trip (AAA estimate of family travel this holiday)
@ $3.00 a gal, Elio needs 6 1/2 gal = $19.50
a car getting 25mpg needs 22 gal= $66.00
WOW thats great if only one or two folks, without a large turkey use the Elio.
On the other hand, if you calculate round trip costs per person (family of 4) + gifts and the large turkey with the 4 wheel car it's actually cheaper per person using the "regular" car.
One idea strongly suggested by EM is that it wasn't intended as a family car, and to use this creative math to show savings on a trip to a holiday gathering is silly, Sure the college kid and his friend in Elio works, but what of then the family of six+ the turkey??
