Good information Zelio, it hasn't eliminated the under 18 helmut law yet though. I'm guessing that will be addressed next here in Colorado!

Is anyone clear on what is required for Colorado? I'm trying to figure out if my boys (under 18) will need to wear a helmet while riding in the back. Thanks for any info.

Actually you should read the the bill Zelio posted a bit closer as that law specifically exempts autocycles, such as the Elio vehicle, from all motorcycle laws by excluding them from the definition of a motorcycle. As of January 1, 2015 autocycle type vehicles, such as the Elio, will no longer be considered motorcycles in Colorado. As such all motorcycle specific laws, such as the law requiring those under 18 to wear a helmet while on a motorcycle, do not apply to this type of vehicle.

(55) "Motorcycle" means a motor vehicle that uses handlebars or
any other device connected to the front wheel to steer and that is designed
to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground; except
that the term does not include
a farm tractor, AUTOCYCLE, low-speed
electric vehicle, or low-power scooter.

You're right, I must've missed it. I read this years Colorado Revised Statutes a couple of Months ago, when I first saw the map showing Colorado with the limited helmut law. CSP buddy told me the same thing.

And on further review, it says it became effective July 1, 2014! I'm guessing no one has run across this situation yet? Good to know, but now Elio can update their map, right??

(Edited because I've been up since yesterday after noon, and can't spell or switch pages back and forth worth without hitting "enter" worth a dang!!)

Elio should update their map!

Not to nitpick but just to avoid any possible confusion. While the law itself is effective July 1, 2014 it does not become applicable until January 1, 2015 so until that date the old laws are technically valid and enforceable.
SECTION 7. Effective date - applicability. This act takes effect
July 1, 2014, and applies to vehicles registered or acts committed on or
after January 1, 2015.

I am starting to get a bit scared as in the last six months on this site I have read through so much legislation and regulation that the legalese is actually beginning to make sense to me now. :eek:o_O:D

Hey McCune welcome to the Elio family! We're just a hop, skip and a jump away from you, in Arvada. Looks like your question was answered, which means the Elioites here are on the ball!:) Z, Goofyone, and Bert good job! While our only child is an adult, we do have two grandsons. Grandma won't have to buy helmets, :) but the boys might be a little disappointed!:(
