My Liege was built from the component parts of a Reliant three wheeler, which I parted out here. Until last week I was a moderator on the Reliant World forum (sadly now closed by the site owner).

The Top Gear programme about the Reliant Robin was recorded less than ten miles from here and I know most of the Reliant owners who took part.

They told me the car was specially rigged so it would roll over easily. They fitted a large wheel on one side and a smaller one on the other, they also fitted ballast and an internal roll cage, removed the fuel tank etc.

Btw, a Reliant three wheeler bears little similarity to the Elio. It is front engined, rear wheel drive and has only one wheel at the front.

watch the Reliant Robin being put through it's paces.
The one solid thing I Iearned from this Top Gear episode; Never let anyone from top gear drive anything you own or like(d). Especially Jeremy! But I did like the idea of one going into space, it looked cool as one.
(But yes, in both programs, I laughed my butt off!)
It was funny too when he drove the T-Rex.

Does a helmet come standard when one buys a Reliant Robin? I think the Top Gear - Jeremy - tends to drive too fast.
I wonder what he would have thought of the Bond Bug?

A helmet is only needed when driving like Jeremy Clarkson.

The programme he took part in brought together all of the old cliches about three wheeled Reliants. Despite his mockery, the cars served a very useful purpose for those who would otherwise have to rely on the very poor level of public transport that those in UK were expected to put up with.

P.s. Even Clarkson's wife has now had enough of him....
