I'm currently a daily motorcycle commuter; I have been for nearly 15 years. I managed to rack up 100,000 miles on my newest bike in just over 5 years, and I can literally count on one hand how many times I've driven to work in the past 30 months. Riding a motorcycle is not something I particularly think about; it's just a part of life. If I'm going somewhere alone, I take a motorcycle. If the Wife and kids are coming along, we're definately taking something larger. The Elio will be great for those trips where I need to take one other person (kid to school, Wife on Date Night, etc.), especially when it's 40° & raining and they don't want to bundle up.

I don't recall if it was a blog or a travel update but I recall seeing something recently in which Jerome was quoted as saying something like Elio is still trying to find the nitch that the vehicle fits in. Elio motors thinks says E is for everyone but of course there are going to be some groups of people that will adopt it easier.

This led me back to thinking about the tandem seating and of course who is most comfortable with the notion of single or tandem seating???? Why motorcyclists of course. Perhaps this is why this poll shows that 80% that responded currently or in the past has been motorcycle riders.

Hmm... Here are some additional thoughts as to why I think motorcyclists would be attracted to elio:
  • Motorcycles have limited carrying capacity. I suppose a full bagger might have as much storage as an elio but for the most part a motorcyclist needs to make specific decisions as to what they intend to carry which is a far cry from having an SUV and just tossing in whatever suits you or that you happen to come across in your travels. Having already adjusted to this I suspect motorcyclists are more willing to accept such a limitation from the elio.
  • There are many motorcyclists that have a motorcycle specifically for commuting with the intent of reducing their fuel bill. These riders are already ready to give up conveniences in the interest of being green or saving some green. For them, the elio does the same except it adds a lot of convenience that these riders had to previously give up. With the elio costing about as much as a new bike I have to believe these riders have a natural affinity to wanting an elio.

Been a biker since I was 15 (which was a REALLY a long time ago) Many years ago I actually taught a motorcycle safety course for military bikers while stationed at Ft. Benning. Currently own 11 bikes from the 70's and 80's.

Sounds like a nice collection . I am curious if you have any Kawasaki three cylinder two cycles. I had a 350cc S2 which was very nice, then I rode a friends 750cc triple!

I started in 1969 in the Salinas, California. I noticed an earlier comment someone was by Fort Ord. That is by Monterey, Ca and my back yard for roads to ride on. Hwy one, big Sur, Santa Cruz, yes up to SF! Great roads, views. Also Laguna Seca race track , I went to the first pro motorcycle road race held there, was great! I did a few motorcross races and then flat track. Been and lived also San Jose, California and been to the famed San Jose mile rack track! Great past motorcycle times!. Ready for Elio!
