Hi tech solutions to non essential issues have always been a tedious fit. Rear steering, Fly by wire, tilting. These things are desirables and not essentials. Full filling all kinds of desirables has given the market reasons for the main-line automakers to sell a new model every year, and also has raised the price up to the point that we have $30k average prices. And we're being sold more luxury, more features, more candy each time. Next they want to sell us networked vehicles and autonomous driving. For sure they'll add streaming movies, first shooter VR and casino gaming as soon as they find a marketing angle for it. And profit motive is only loosely coupled to need.

They try very, very hard to entice us into paying more, which also brings higher payout, higher maintenance and lower efficiency. The average car today is huge in comparison to the average sedan of other times. It reminds me of the motto of Minimum Motoring; The minimum car to do the job.

Do you really need all that excess in a car to go to work and run errands? It's a cycle of things of course, constantly shifting up. Until, eventually there is a hole at the market bottom and economic reality sets in. Someone of the means to do so, sees an opportunity and then you have a new low end car like a Sentra(80's), Fiesta(70's),VW(60's).

Elio is doing one little step more however, opening a lower market that hasn't existed since just post WW2. But an Elio is a bit more capable than those early bubble cars. It is truly a hard fought improvement to that legacy. Just my opinion.

Daily Progress. It reminds me of a T-REX three wheeler.

Tanom Motors USA.
Ribbon-Cutting-294x300.jpg

After a few minutes of research on Tanom Motors and their autocycles, a few of them that BigWarpGuy posted pics of above, here's what I see:
o Events they have on their website - 2 since April
o Dealers - 3, but when I go to their websites, they don't list Tanom as an item or a make that they sell, so they aren't selling them yet
o Tanom's Dealers page says "Additional Dealers Coming in 2014!"; uh, it's 2014 now, has been for 7 months
o The production facility (pictured above) had their ribbon-cutting ceremony in November 2013; as best I can tell, that's the most recent news on their website
o I don't find any information about what, when, how many for production of these vehicles
o One interesting thing: Virginia had a state rep that submitted a bill in January for classification of an autocycle, which would help the Elio
o On their Facebook page, a person asked on April 21 about availability at dealers. The answer: "We are in our last leg of brake testing. Our first couple of dealers are getting ready to receive inventory. It is all contingent on when the testing is complete. We do not have a definitive date yet."

No transparency at all with their information. If you don't give info, we complain because we don't know anything. If you do give info, we complain because we don't know more whats whens and whys. :)

I love the Elio. I have been talking about it ever since I seen it on fox news. I would love to be able to go to Dallas to see and test drive one in person, but I can't drive that far. carolyn

Carolyn, welcome to the forum from an Elio addict in Ne Mexico. Just so you know Elio doesn't offer test drives yet. That is planned after the P5/E preproduction models are finished this fall. It will be early next spring before any of us get to test drive one. Enjoy the Elio journey and the experience.

Not a big fan of the T-rex styling but the Campagna VR13 Roadster........love it! Could be an Elio Roadster version in the future.

Thank you for saying "IN THE FUTURE"! I, too, think this is a fun future concept. I am sorely grieved to find many future owners of first year Elio production models asking to put on trailer hitches (can't with the initial stability control program), turbochargers, do SCCA racing, etc., etc. Great ideas for the future, but I think many peoples' expectations and imaginations are getting ahead of the practical realities. Paul Elio has said he will be producing only 14 models, consisting of 2 transmissions and 7 color options. Everything else, initially, will be aftermarket, SOME OF WHICH may be installed at your pick up point.

The Elio can be spoken of as a decent Auto in that it attempts to real in most all the other wild and crazy 3 wheelers out there. That is to say that contrary to all the other 3 wheelers we see the Elio doesn't run around with no top and doesn't cost you a ton of money to take out. The rest are a little slutty in my opinion. LOL
