I wonder if that top is enough for it to take advantage of autocycle legislation requiring a closed cab, thus not requiring a motorcycle endorsement in many states, including Ohio.
No doors, no airbags, it has a windscreen, but I wouldn't consider that a full windshield, no wipers, I don't think it meets enough of the requirements.

I kind of like the look of the Slingshot from the front and sides, but the rear looks just awful. It looks like the back of some cheap plastic lawn chair.

IIRC Ohio's law doesn't require doors, airbags, windshield wipers, or even a steering wheel. It requires an enclosed cab, which is defined as having a top. And if the top is removable, it must be installed.

we are on our way from North Carolina to South Dakota and are currently in a campground near St Louis .... while out for a walk this morning I got my first look at a Polaris Slingshot ..... this is the first time I've ever had an opportunity to see one up close .... its an interesting rig that I'd love to drive but have absolutely no interest in owning

Being retired, I don't have a daily commute. But I could drive the Elio any day, any weather. This you wouldn't want to do with the Slingshot unless you are a really dedicated motorcyclist (that's who it appeals to), or young. A riding buddy of mine has a t-shirt that reads "Before you become old and wise you must survive being young and stupid".
I like AC/Heat, traction control, antilock brakes and a nice sound system. Oh ya. . .and a cup holder!

I am definitely getting older. Years ago, I rode bikes and drove muscle cars. For me, the Slingshot would be a thrill to look at – but I'd prefer to own an Elio. While the Elio won't scorch the roads, I think it'll be fun, safe and practical. Still got my fingers crossed for one ;)

Same page. The slingshot is a scary hot rod. I believe that some people with the money will exceed their skill level. Fun to look at, but I don't want one.:yo:

Ok, $3K for a T-top you can't remove unless you're parked or you have an endorsement.

Same here. My first big bike was a new Norton Commando in 1970 and racing guys on 2 lane high ways in AL. Remember? young and stupid?_Also going back to Nam to flying Hueys. I do wish I still I had my 67 Mustang GT. New, $3,200 out the door but had to ad my own 8 track!

I didn't say it was a good deal. :p It's just a theory about one possible motivation for it.
Let me think about that ....... umm yea NO!

Still not good enough reason to buy one; I still can't find a reason to buy a Slingshot; it's way over priced for what it is.
