My take on the Infinite Skyz System from today’s Webinar.

So what do you get?

A controller box

An App to download

Rear camera & 360 camera(s)

1 year basic cell service

And that’s about it.

The Controller box connects to the CAN Bus (CAN Bus =

CAN BUS.gif

You connect the Controller to the ODB II plug

It uses Bluetooth to connect the controller box to any other devices that you want to connect like the cameras and “other devices they have yet to determine they will have”. In the picture it shows GPS; that’s not part of the controller, it already has to be in your car. If it’s not, you have to buy a separate GPS receiver. Or if the tablet (you have to provide) has GPS built in, it will use it. For using Bluetooth headsets; they have to hook into your Bluetooth enabled stereo that does connect to the Controller Box. The system will work without the cell service, it just won’t have the internet connection; you’ll have to be connected to WiFi to get that.

The cell service they will include for the first year will be through a number of different carriers that are yet to be determined. You need the cell service for the remote control of your car; that will include the remote door locks, and remote start. You can also connect to your car remotely and “see” what the cameras “see”. It is NOT streaming video. They are short clips of a few seconds. The system is capable of storing 30 minutes of recording time; they are working on being able to add additional storage such as Smart Cards (SDHC); how big? Yet to be determined. The cameras; the highest quality cameras on the market “at the time of release”; there is the rear camera, and the 360 will be camera or cameras, they too will be determined what is available on the market what release time comes. How about Forward and Interior? Yes, the system can handle those, but they will be at an additional charge. Interior? Yes, so if someone moves or breaks into your car, the controller senses the movement and goes into record/broadcast mode (through the cell service).

They’ve mentioned the lane sensors, blind spot sensors and some other sensors, is that all included? Yes and no; if your car currently has those systems in place, the Controller Box will connect to them, and make them part of the APP dashboard; if your car doesn’t have them, they will not appear (work) on the Skyz Dashboard.

What OS does the APP work with?

IOS (and the soon to be released Version 10) and Android 4.0 and up. They don’t have a version for the Windows phones they are too small of a market share to be profitable.

This is just a short overview that I walked away with. The Webinar was 45-50 minutes long; the presenter was not one of the better ones I’ve heard over the years. Will it do more? Probably, like I said, this is just my personal overview, and what I took away from it. If you would like to see it for yourself, you can go to their website and view it there.

As for my personal opinion on it; I’m not going to say it here. You can PM me if you really want to know; I would prefer if people form their own opinion about it.

The Pioneer AVH-X7800BT with AVIC-U260 add-on GPS is what I (at the moment) am going for.

Yeah, after installation I'm not saving over the Skyz System, but 1) I'm not getting the 3G/4G bills, and 2) I don't have a tablet out in the open screaming "Take me, take me!"

Amazon has those for $346; add a camera ($20) and video in motion ($14) and you have the system.

I do plan on adding a forward and side view cameras (both sides) besides the back; tah dah 360 degree view.

Hmmm... could you clarify what "Video in Motion" might be for me, please? Is that software?

Yeah. Me, I don't plan on installing myself. I know my level of proficiency. Thus, Amazon is out.

I'm wanting rear camera that turns on when in reverse, and side cameras (left or right, not both) that turn on when turn signal is activated. Don't know if this is possible with this unit. Buddy at work has it 'built-in' to his, and I like.

Video in Motion; almost everywhere it is illegal to have video playing within site of the driver when the car is in motion (distracted driver); so they have an interlock system that won't allow video to be played unless the parking brake is on. Video in Motion bypasses that interlock system and allows the unit to play video without the parking brake on. It's a chip with 3 wires.

The camera on when you put it in reverse is easy; you tap the power wire from the camera into the + side of your backup lights; lights go on, power goes to camera, Ding, camera on.
The side with turn signal is controlled by the BCM in the car. Just like the ECM = Engine Control Module; the cars today have a BCM = Body Control Module and it controls driving "features"; in other words a computer that controls all the creature comforts and Foo Foo toys in a car.
Since I don't know of any systems that tag into the BCM, you would have to be really creative to build an aftermarket system that copies your buddy's car.
