If it takes you 3 hours at the Maryland MVA (not "DMV"), you're probably confusing it with another state. ;)

In the last 20 years I've gone through new titles and plates on more than a dozen vehicles, renewals on those vehicles, personalized plates on a couple, and three driver's license renewals. More than 50 transactions by my count. I currently have four registered vehicles. I've done it at Glen Burnie, Mondawmin mall, and Bel Air. The longest I've ever had to wait is 45 minutes and that was an outlier. They post live, accurate wait times on their web site, and publish when the busiest times are so planning ahead is a breeze. The people have always been extremely helpful and efficient, and I've had some sketchy titles, questionable sales values, and emissions shenanigans over the years.

Maryland is moving toward more online renewals for registration and licensing because it's faster for the customer. Online renewals are nearly-instant and completely painless. The MVA website (unlike the failed and abandoned Maryland Obamacare website) is logically laid-out, easy to use, and completely reliable.

Of the three states I've lived in, Maryland has the absolute best motor vehicle administration. They always treat me like a customer, unlike so many other government bureaucracies. I don't have any friends or relatives that work there so I have no bias in that opinion.

The private shops charge a significant extra amount to provide their services. Not worth it IMHO.

Well it was MARYLAND, I had 45 people in front of me, not a seat to be found for the 1st hour and I'd certainly pay more for service than losing 3 hours inside "MVA" in addition to the drive there and back.

The sun must have been shining on all your trips, but I certainly wasn't that LUCKY!

AND I've only ever lived in Maryland except for college, so I'm not confused;)

I guess the reason I called it MVA was I'm old enough to remember when it was called the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration

Sorry, I do not know how to point to a different thread; however, I researched titling for Maryland and found:

It seems that HB805 was vetoed! At first, I was upset; however, it seems that the reason that it was vetoed was that there was already SB 774 which covered this.

HB805: https://legiscan.com/MD/bill/HB805/2016
SB774: https://legiscan.com/MD/bill/SB774/2016
I'm not familiar with Maryland specifics, but this usually results in reconciliation rather than a veto of one or the other. In fact, I'm not sure if it could even be vetoed unless it also passed the other house, in this case with HB805, the Senate.

Maryland is like 2 different states! There's the DC liberal Marylanders (where they came up with a "rain tax" and you should pay RE tax based on the size of your roofs on your property) and then there is the Western & Eastern conservative Marylanders. (where we have our guns and bibles)
