What kind of illumination options are there for those instruments?

I think you get a whale-oil lamp standard. One of Paul's relatives once saw a whaling ship and he wanted to honor them.
According to the company that makes them, there are a number of options
For the back lighting, you can have from 4 to 6 LED's per gauge, and you can get different colors.
<here's an example>
I was planning on reusing part of the dash that had the turn signals and highbeam indicator.
Or you can do it in the gauges
If you want to get fancy, you can do it in LED's in a halo lighting effect
They also give you the choice of which pointer you want

I could never say any aftermarket item will be a simple plug and play unless it was made by the manufacturer of the vehicle.
If you've ever dealt with true aftermarket "universal" products; you know they fit nothing in the universe right out of the box.
When I start doing the dashes, I'll know a lot more of what it will take, and not until then.
I've done custom vehicles for a lot of years, and I will be honest with people up front.
The other part to be aware of is that they won't be "cheap"; not budget busters either.
I've had a lot of people get the "I wants" until they find out, I want doesn't mean "it's free".

Went to Mohegan Sun/Barrett Jackson event in CT last month. The red P5 ELIO was very crowded with interest. Here's what I heard while talking to the ELIO reps. Steering wheel is from Camaro, front seat from a Mustang, see thru trunk lid with rear view mirror is not going to happen, rear backup camera option very possible, fog/driving lights option very possible. They are looking at two possible location for the lights, front nose or on fenders. I did pose a stump the wizard question for them, where is the optional subwoofer going to be located? Use valuable trunk space? maybe or maybe in the right side panel.

Well I guess I had a senior moment as I forgot to mention what may be the most important news I heard from the ELIO reps last month. Although not firm yet it is their intention to start test drives of the P5 or the E1A at touring events beginning in August or September. Now before everyone gets to excited there's a catch. Test drives will only be offered to those who have $1,000 ALL-IN reservations.
