I have loathed car buying...for all the reasons cited. And knew I had been ripped off with nearly every deal. Then came across fightingchance.com. Did that with two new purchases. Totally satisfying. I was in the drivers seat...and they knew it. In and out in minutes...literally.

I usually do well at dealers but its still a pain. last car I did a deal for was bought for 24k sticker was 31k. I had to leave two dealers and leverage them against themselves. Elio @ 6800 is no haggle so thats good.

Recently, after two shops diagnosed a blown head gasket on my BMW135IM,and aside from the lights going on the dash, I was able to limp it into a dealer, topping off just before arriving. Their used car directer, did his usual thing, and came back without picking it up, gave me a trade-in price, leased a new one,(slowly I learn) and walked out with a big grin, with cash in my pocket (didn't owe anything). First time I knew I got a really great deal!

According to the the guys at "Car Talk" you can judge a mechanic by the boat he owns. The bigger the boat, the bigger the crook. :lemo:
The generalized Car Talk quote seems unfair to the highly successful and honest mechanics that choose to spend their hard earned disposable income on boating.

I'll still think somebody got a better deal.

Another benefit of buying a car from Costco is you do not get endless telephone calls from the dealership.

Recently I went to a Toyota dealership so I could test drive the Yaris and experience the AMT. (I discovered they do not have the AMT in their Yaris,)

Since then I have been pestered with phone calls from the dealership wanting me to buy a car.

I always made it a point to let the sales person know........don't call me, I'll call you or you will lose a sale.
