Elioowners offered to buy the EM team lunch last year at the showing in Birmingham, AL. They wouldn't accept our offer of payment, but we gathered up "to go" menus from four nearby restaurants. Mrs. Vassallo chose one of them, and each of the team made their meal selections. We ordered and picked up the food for them (allowing the team to stay with the Elio). They were so grateful. My suggestion would be for Elioowners everywhere to offer the same courtesy at each Elio showing. This simple effort was much appreciated.

Keep it simple. After my turn in the Elio, I simply walked to four nearby sit-down restaurants and asked for their take-out menus.

Nice hotel, I've stayed here before; they did have a really good restaurant in the hotel (I said did, it's been a while since I was last there).
There are a couple of other places for food near there.

So the plan was to meet somewhere and go over as a group; what do we have for suggestions?
This is only 3 to 4 days away (it's Monday and Tuesday) and because it is a M&T allow for traffic. The hotel is about 3 blocks east of I-205.

Wow, when they first announced that they we doing a tour stop in Portland a lot of people wanted to get together and go.
What happened to everyone?

As far as the 8/3 and 8/4 showing of the car... The Hilton was completely blindsided. No one with Elio arranged this event with the hotel. We apologize to all those that called and or came in and were told there was no event here. We are happy to be a part of the excitement, but feel we certainly should have been included in the planning of the event, rather than having our parking lot used without our permission. We have agreed to allow the event to continue for both days. We hope the next time Elio wants to have an event at our property that they will include us so we can be prepared and assist in making sure the event is over the top Hilton style.

Well it was a really good event, got a lot of questions answered and with that in mind, here they are


Questions for the Elio Team 8-3-2015

1. Results from test runs of initial IAV engine.

They didn’t have them because they have not been shared yet. When they are ready to post them, they will be up on the Elio site.


2) Actual ground clearance of final vehicle

Same as a Mustang 5 3/4 “

3) Sales of surplus equipment

Some of it has been sold; as to the exact number but he guessed around ¼ to 1/3 of it has been sold.

4) Results of 506c campaign in terms other than "it raised some money."

Another item no exact figures but at least $5million up to $10million is as close as they can say.

5) Refined list of distribution center locations

Not as of yet; it will be out as they are opened, and they will have it on the EM site

6) ATVM loan guarantee status

Hurdle 1 is past, Hurdle 2 is in the works, Hurdle 3 unknown

7) Progress of Autocycle bills in both House and Senate

Another unknown

8) OBD I or OBD II? and related issues

OBD II as for related issues none that they knew of

9) How much will Paul Elio take to get rid of the Elgin Dash? Would a couple of million do it?

The Elgin dash is here to stay, period. As for other options, none absolute at this time, but the Skyz will be in a different place, possible changes to entire dash to allow for it.

10) If you choose the Sky, will it replace the Elgin? Or is there any other option to replace the Elgin?

11) What is the actual cost of building a prototype, and where does the money go?

As far as Neil had heard it was anywhere from $250K to $500K but only those that have to know have the exact figure.

12) Will the E brake just be for the back wheel only?

Yes, rear wheel only.

13) Will the manufactured vehicles coming off the assembly line have fully adjustable shocks like the prototype?

Standard coil over shocks set for “medium” ride. Adjustable shocks will be an option.

14) Will a backup camera be available without Skyz?

Yes, standard “backup” camera like you can buy for cars now

15) Will remote lock/unlock be available without Skyz?

Yes, typical key fob style


Side note** The Skyz tied to the door locks and other items will be something you can use your smartphone with, or tablet, or PC. However there may be a monthly service charge similar to something like On*Star or U-Connect.


16) Any idea what the Skymatic will cost? Any idea when pricing for other options will be posted to allow for budgeting?
This will be posted before you pick out your vehicle. The supplier summit is working with this also; so once they have the final list of options, they will have pricing information.

17)There was talk about the first Elio's would be Alpha's and Beta's; count was around 1,000. Is this correct?

He had heard this number in discussions, but it’s not a firm number yet.

18) Are they going to be sold to the first 1,000 reservation holders?

Yes

19) Besides being the first off the assembly line, will there be anything special about them?

For the first year cars (aka reservationists cars) they have discussed a custom door threshold / door sill plate denoting that it is a first year build car. As to what all information it would have on it, was still being tossed around.

20) 2 armrests?

Yes, the production Elio will have armrests on both side; it was unknown if it would be on the seat or on the side panel. The recline was also tough to get to, it is being redesigned for production. Tilt wheel will be standard equipment.


Next questions are all Fleet related

So I just give the overall “thought” on it. A fleet sale is any one person or company buying 5 or more vehicles at one time. Do that have fleet sales included in the reservation count? Yes, but only if they have purchased the All In or Want In status like everyone else. So say you want 10 Elio’s for your company, and you went $1K All In, you paid $10K and got an SIL like everyone else. You will also receive it in the same order as everyone else. Other than that, that was all the information he had on fleet sales.

21) What will happen to the 125,000 vehicles produced between reservationist deliveries and when the stores open?
Neither one of us really knew what this meant; so he had no answer for it, sorry.


Oddball question

Rumor; someone said that a company in Detroit has cut off all ties with Elio Motors. Is this true? If it is, who was it and what service did they provide?
He had no knowledge of any supplier breaking ties with Elio Motors; all suppliers that originally signed on are still signed on. He also had never heard that rumor before and we both just chuckled about it.

It went back to the saying “if you haven’t heard a good rumor by 10am start one”.

Remember I’m just the messenger in this list of questions; I can’t qualify or disqualify anything I was told, other than the fact this information given was from a representative of Elio Motors and I have no reason the doubt any of it.


One last question I asked was about markers on the back of the front wheels. There are no plans for it at this time, but that very well could change.

I had a nice time at the Portland event. it was a nice day and since the stop wasn't associated with a huge event it was casual and the 6 member elio team was great in answering questions. my new avatar is me in the car. I got goose bumps when they rolled it out of the trailer.

Last year at the Knoxville Hilton Airport, I got there early during my lunch break, the service desk did not know anything about an Elio showing or what an Elio was. I found the trailer in the parking lot. Returned later after work to see the prototype.
