No, they are only a initial impact cushion; they do nothing for any impacts after the first.
They are a supplement to the seatbelt system; Same with the side bags. They all work together to provide safety to the occupants.
The lower cushions in the dash are another part; to help protect your legs if there is an intrusion, or if you submarine under the seatbelt.

The air bags....currently (3) installed on the Elio have and will be constantly tested and retested to assure proper deployment. Why would the Elio Motors Company go through all the capital investment, time,and engineering with a crucial "Start-Up" phase allow a foreign part on a finished production auto-cycle bring it all down ??? What I'm most concerned with in prohibiting the Elio coming into production is a "Elite Group" of big oil money that somehow sways the present decision makers on approving the steps it takes to enable Elio to distribute dealerships across the United States into the hands of a eager driving population without all the governmental red tape that regulates companies out of business !!! What Paul Elio is doing is very threathening to a select elite group that would profit more if the Elio dies on the upstart....I am optimistically desiring a production line producing "Elio Autocycles" by June/July 2016....meaning I'm also looking forward to hearing and seeing videos by May 2016 where a substantial work force has been hired and they are showing a collection of robotics and plant workers going through the assembly line phase pretesting production runs.....( I'm just sayin' )

LOL... No. Air Bags should be used in conjunction WITH a seat belt... figure you are in a horrible crash... The seatbelt will hold you in place the entire time. The Airbag is only good for the first impact of your head... it deflates so your head doesn't bounce off it. When that seatbelt keeps you from going through the windshield, the airbag helps keep your neck from snapping.

"Big Oil" LOL... wouldn't they be "For" the Elio? The Elio will use their product and could sway many people who were in the market for a small electric vehicle which uses no "big oil" products...
