Here are the rules. It's best to have a picture or something for us to look at but, whatever.

1. State the misquote and the movie it came from
2. State the actual quote
3. (optional) tell us how it came about

Example:

Misquote: "Luke, I am your Father" Star Wars
Actual quote: "I am your Father"

Misquote: "First, you need to construct a rudimentary lathe?"
Actual Quote: "I know! You construct a weapon. Look around you – can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?"

Reason it's funny to me: I love the movie, of course. But, when one of my kids says something like "I can't find my phone." My response sometimes is "I know what to do. First, you need to construct a rudimentary lathe." Makes me laugh just thinking about it.

(This picture isn't of "Guy" who said the line nor of Tim Allen when "Guy" told him but, come on... Sigourney Weaver.)

For those unfamiliar, at the picture's point in the movie, there was a self destruct timer going off that they failed to stop and Tim Allen's character was about to "we are about to die anyway" with Sigourney Weaver when the countdown stopped at one second. Why? That's what it always did in the show. (The Alien race built the ship based on watching the old Star Trek style show, Galaxy Quest and did so accurately much to the chagrin of the show's cast who got mistaken for a real space crew)

I just thought of a song mis-quote... a woman I went to college with, back at that time, said that she always thought this line of the Greg Kihn Band song was this:

Misquote - "I love you Stephanie... bay-bay!"
Actual - "Our love's in jeapordy... bay-bay!"

And then I have to fess up... on the Toto song Africa, I was just slightly wrong on this line:

Misquote - "There's nothing that a hundred men on Mars, could ever do..."
Actual - "There's nothing that a hundred men or more, could ever do..."

LOL
