I recall those same three words used by many when the Hello Elio marketing campaign kicked off in '08.

Cool ugly.

How do you like the rolling resistance of them thar tires Snick?

From the Shockwave site:
"Normally it costs about a dollar to charge the batteries ($1.75 to recharge our largest LiFePO4 battery); so at that rate, it costs a little over a penny a mile for electricity. Battery depreciation will add another three or four cents a mile to the operating costs."

At least they're realistic in communicating total projected EV operating costs.

So that's about $.05/mi just to power the thing.
Assuming gasoline @ $3.00/gal, figure $3.00/$.05 = a realistic 60MPGe.

The Elio is projected to get 84mpg.

According to everyone's projections, the base roadster will cost:
3.66x the cost of a base Elio and 3.96x the cost of a base Elio w' the EM $500 discount.
The base roadster + premium battery pack costs:
4.77x the cost of a base Elio and 5.15x the cost of a base Elio w' the EM $500 discount.

It appears that you can only put down a fully refundable deposit on the the roadster.
Though I can't find where the site says how much of a deposit they are asking for.
Nor could I find a projected production date on the website itself.
Nor do they ask for card information on (at least the first page of) the "reservation agreement"

Since it doesn't appear that Shockwave is publicly crowdfunding,
I'd like to know who McMillian got, or expects to get, HIS $240M from.

The kids in the back are asking, "Are we there yet?"
The answer is no, not quite.

Irregardless, Just a side order...
My opinion is that EM better hurry before someone else actually produces something for their projected market.

Irregardless! LOL

The styling of the Defiant is reminiscent of a chopped '26 Model T Roadster. The Hot Rods I loved as a kid!

Other cool Ev3 features: it seats 3, look at the size of the TRUNK, a removable hardtop, and take a look at that DASH.

nice dash!

Perhaps Shockwave could share the GM production facilities and Shreveport could be the
autocycle manufacturing capital of the world.

Research shows that maintenance and repair of the EV3 will be less than 10% of the cost of the average automobile to include the Elio.

This is a "dress up and say: HEY! look at ME!!" toy.

It is not remotely practical and will only invite scorn from the general buying public.

The Elio's design philosophy is strictly: form follows function. This is the opposite. It's got the wheels the wrong way around, and I couldn't commute to work in it.

Sounds like the Shock Motors philosophy is sound for their Ev3 Commuter. Different form following the same function. You may not like the styling, it may not have the range you need but it may be better than the Elio for many close in commuters. One should be able to appreciate the value of both concepts.

Scorn from the general public? Doesn't seem to be any government funding, but only private venture capital to date. I would think less scorn from reservationists with only a fully REFUNDABLE reservation deposit option and certainly less scorn from the general public who want nothing to do with Elio Motors and don't see the value of any government assistance/loan. I wish them both success.

Need I point out the obvious? The wheels are the wrong way around. It should be 2F/1R for a stable, daily driver commuter car. It costs a small fortune.

Heaven forbid you take this car around a decreasing radius, off-camber corner. It may be your last.

This is a show car, not a 'go' car.
