I live in Houston. In looking over the forum I've seen a lot about direct sales, prohibitions, etc., but I haven't been able to find out what we Texans will have to do when it's time to pick up our car. Does anyone out there know? Am I going to have to drive to the factory to get it? Will I have to pay Louisiana taxes and then Texas taxes? Any info would be appreciated and if you can tell me your source that would be great. Thanks...

Now that the autocycle classification is law, perhaps the grass roots future Texas Elio owner's should work on the Texas (R) Legislative branch to change the antiquated direct to consumer sales laws used by the NADA lobbies to keep out the competition. It doesn't appear there will be Elio Stores in Texas without that new legislation.

I have purchased one new car from an out of state dealer. It was dealer plated for 30 days at the time of purchase, during which time I registered, payed my home State's sales tax, and licensing fees. I can't imagine it would be any different buying your Elio factory direct, from an out of State Elio Store, or online and having it shipped/delivered to your home address.

Best to check requirements with your Texas DMV.

Thank you so much for the info. Sounds like good advice....

Auto dealers give 90%+ of their campaign contributions to Repugs, knowing that Repugs are "pro business", will repay the dealer cartels with pro-cartel, anti-consumer laws and regs.

Same story with electric utilities paying the TX Repugs not to promote, even block rooftop solar.

Same with cable companies paying TX Repugs to block municipally built, owned data networks.

No way for consumers to buy TX Repugs by outbidding the $Ms of those cartels, monopolies, duopolies.

one-way car rental from San Antonio to Shreveport for about $200 - $250, 7 hours, then drive Elio back to SA, round trip in one day, is my current plan vs $350+ to fly.

Shreveport should be about 4-5 hours drive from Houston. We drive the Xterra there, do the deal, I drive the Elio home with her following. Total time; one day. Can't complain about that!
