Every person looks at retirement differently .Today is my 68th birthday and I love what I do which is Industrial commercial construction .We are not big timers nor have I made a lot of money .What gives me great joy is that all my employees are disabled or hard to place veterans .I'm up at 3:30 most mornings to go out to work with the guys (4-10) and build buildings .

I'd like to semi retire when i'm 85 and since my doctor has said my generation is programmed to live to be 125 I'm just past my half life .

Every person looks at retirement differently .

absolutely, couldn't agree more .... the first time I retired was after spending over 34 years working in NC's prison system .... the second time was after 10+ years working in RV sales .... no regrets about working in either; in fact for the most part, I enjoyed going to work .... over the years I worked with way too many folks who worked all their lives, retired, got sick and died .... I decided that I want to enjoy however many days I have left .... we travel about half of the year in our camper and are at home the other half

Retired once was not ready. So a short term position turned into another career . Looking at an exit and retiring from that one also soon , that will be the last of my paid working life. I will be ready this time.

years ago I was told that I'd know when it was time to retire and for me that proved to be correct, both times ... my dad once told me when you are thinking about retirement take a look at the amount of money you will be bringing home not working .... compare that to the amount you are bringing home working .... the difference is what you are actually working for

Right now I'm in a semi retirement mode. My job as a sale representative allows me to work as much as I want. So I'm easing into retirement a little bit more each year. Another extra week in Florida in the winter each year.

Worked really hard early in my career and saved for retirement. I believe I've financially prepared. But, it's a crap shoot. It all is controlled by your health.

Leaving the Army and joining this side of life full time was a culture shock. I fell into a great position that paid very well and just got comfortable there.
It worked out well Grandchildren will make out when we die. I can walk away at anytime now with a second full retirement. While I still enjoy what I do the world is changing greed is taking the enjoyment out of it. Looking forward to more riding soon.

I'm sliding into retirement. Five years ago I tried to retire but they talked me into working 4 days and promised to kick me out the door after 8 hours. This month I turned 55 and had the retirement conversation again. Now I'm working 3 days and they are re-upping their efforts to kick me out the door after 8 hours.

I figured that in retirement I'd work 2-3 days a week doing something but the 1 day a week $8/hour job driving cars at the auto auction was likely to be more hobby than income. I looked at other work as well but nothing compares to the kind of change I can take down from my 3 day a week job so I'll continue to coast toward retirement working 3 days a week until one of us get tired of each other.

The nice thing about this gig is that I don't need it so the cash coming in is really helping my toy fund :) but I am still looking forward to the day when I don't have to go anywhere even 3 days a week.
