I KNOW THE OWNER OF ORGANIC TRANSIT AS WELL AS ONE OF THE ELF's DESIGNERS .
I WORK IN DURHAM NOT FAR FROM WHERE THEY ARE BUILT .

THE ELF CAN DO SOME COOL THINGS LIKE SELF CHARGING BUT IT IS
REALLY AN ELECTRIC ASSIST BICYCLE WITH A THIN MOLDED PLASTIC BODY .
NO HELMET , REGISTRATION OR INSURANCE IS REQUIRED . IT IS CLOSER TO A MOPED THAN A CAR .

IT DOES NOT HAVE THE RANGE OR SPEED NEEDED FOR A COMMUTER VEHICLE
& CRASH SAFETY PROBABLY NEVER EVEN CAME UP AT THE DESIGN MEETINGS .

IT CAN DO A NICE JOB DOWNTOWN , GATED NEV COMMUNITIES & THE GREENWAY .
IT HAS NO BUSINESS ON STREETS WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS OVER 35mph .

NOT ONLY IS THIS NO REAL COMPETITION FOR THE ELIO , IT WILL SERVE TO SHOW
PEOPLE HOW MUCH MORE THEY CAN GET FOR THEIR MONEY .

Th Elf velomobile is comparably priced to some other fully enclosed versions. People ride electric assist velomobiles at over 40 mph and up to 90 mph.Yes, bicycles are expensive. The tires for road bicycles can cost much more than a small car tire, but then in the same way an Elio won't replace a family sedan, an Organic Elf is not being built to compete with cars. Prices are likely to come down much for the pedelec (e-motor assisted) bikes.

Personally I'd rather have something like the go-one Evo-K below, it costs around $8.500 without options
